What to expect from a class

All classes begin and end with a bow. This will be followed by a warm-up (sometimes including I Chin Chings), after which will come instruction on material (katas and applications). This concludes the first half of the class, after which the types of classes begin to differ. The first type of class will then progress to breathing and meditation training, while the second will focus on push hands and sparring.

Note: Private lessons or Senior Group lessons will follow a different format.

What to expect from the program

At the beginning you will not be expected to jump into the deep end, but will start with basic posture and Tai Chi stepping. Learning is mainly self paced, so you will never be rushed. Over the next few months you will learn the Yang Style Tai Chi 24 form, and begin learning Classical Pa Kua. You will also be taught breathing and meditation techniques, as well as I Chin Chings and push hands.

The curriculum contains a wide variety of material. The names of the forms may not mean much to you now, but there is enough material available to keep you interested for years or even decades.

Do not worry if you are not a natural athlete. Your training will begin at a very gentle pace and slowly increase in intensity as you progress. Do not worry if you cannot perform each movement perfectly. The point is not to be an instant master, but to reach the level of fitness at which you CAN do the forms properly.
